There is an incredible lack of transparency and accessibility to hospital ratings. In order to address this issue, and as part of a weekly civic tech hackathon, an organizational quality coordinator from a Chicagoland hospital and I developed a Chicago hospital ranking system as a proof of concept. We:

• Acquired, cleaned, analyzed and joined Medicare, Leapfrog, US News and Report & Magnet hospital data in addition to Castle Connelly’s top doctors broken down by medical specialty.

• Implemented a comprehensive weighted-rating model.

• Developed a searching method with R to filter and rank hospitals by specialty in an R Shiny App.
